Avoiding Vacation Sticker Shock and Rebounding

Back from Miami. I have come to realize women are awesome and can form great bonds, but they can also be full of drama for no reason.  I had a great time and definitely want to go back. The "rules" for my trip away were no pasta, rice or potoatoes.  I think I had rice or potatoes with most of my meals.  I didn't go overboard, no binging or huge portions.  Then there was the drinking.  I haven't really drank in a while...so I didn't go overboard, but I drank my fair share. Drinks at Wet Willies in Miami My ankles were not the biggest I've seen, but definitely swollen.  I decided when I got back no scale.  I don't need that kind of negativity in my life. When I got back it was a struggle to get up and workout.  It almost felt like the first couple of weeks. Also doing things that had gotten easier felt like a big of a struggle. Tuesday I got on the scale and I was 359.0.  I am stupidly happy I was in the 350s.  I'm als...

2 month in/ Prepping for Vacation

2 months in and I'm only 4 lbs lost.... Sort of.....After my first week I gained 4 lbs because of cheating. I'm down 8-9  since then and I am pretty happy with my situation. Eating is pretty stable except for cheat day/s.  Those are a work in progress. Working out...isn't a struggle, but I can't say I'm into it, but it's doable.  They key seems to be doing workouts I like.  I know that sounds silly.  Alot of times I feel like we're supposed to force ourselves to do something for our health or weightloss.  I've noticed I'll start talking myself out of a workout when it is something I really don't want to do.  A good example is I'm not a fan of HIIT, or overly chatty instructors, or when the group is acting like its a dinner party rather than a workout.  I also don't like anything over 45 min.  That's my limit.  It doesn't matter how awesome it, I'll get annoyed or tired and not be interested.  I do cardio because I have...

Finding Joy in the Little Changes

So it's taken me 2 months to lose 4 lbs.  I know people are are gonna ready that and be like dude you suck. There are a couple of things to note: When  I started 2 months ago I was 359 and then the week after I went up to 363. I checked my spreadsheet and I haven't been 355 or lower in 4 years.  I've been struggling in the 360s for YEARS !!!!!! I've been in the 350s for a couple of weeks with a mostly steady decline I'm not struggling with eating, and working out is doable. In terms of non scale victories.  I can eat salad. It isn't the end of the world and honestly when I'm out and about it takes the weight of having to figure out what to eat. I don't feel the need to eat EVERYTHING on my plate. I don't eat what I don't want.  ( We will ignore the cream puff I had yesterday) I have more energy.  I don't come home and veg doing nothing until bed time.  I mean I do it sometimes, but if I need to do something I am more lik...

Staying on Track even when cheating.

Usually when I post there is a overall point or idea I'm trying to express.  This is just a catchup post.  Last week I only worked out once.  Part of that was due to working late and just not being able to get it together and part was Friday waking up and being heavier than I thought I should be.  In the end I realized I'm still in the mid 350s, and didn't sky rocket up tot he 360s.  I didn't binge and totally screw my progress so I'm happy. So I do want to list my cheats this weekend. I had a party weekend and I cheated, but it was pretty controlled.  Friday I had a parfait from my usual salad spot.  Thai chili wings from the restaurant at the hotel.  Saturday Fish Tacos and Thai chili wings (yes, I really liked them, lol). Sunday Cheesy potatos and half a waffle for breakfast.  I ate in addition to this stuff, but it was on plan. I was starting to get into the mindset that I need to workout harder and longer and whenever I start d...

Sometimes a Little is Alot

Today was the first time in a while I didn't workout and it wasn't scheduled. I just felt defeated.  The crappy thing is, it's my fault. It's the eating out.  Even when I stay on plan it's the eating out. Even with working out like crazy the eating out is killing me. I haven't even had a binge, nothing..but clearly it isn't my friend.  The only good thing is I"m not in the 360s. I think I would have a really good ugly cry if I had gotten back up that high.  One footnote to this is, I need to stop getting on the scale.  If I had waited till yesterday I wouldn't be so high I think, we'll see. Here's what happened Friday was my cheat day and I had a chocolate parfiat. Saturday I went out with a friend 2 beers 2 mixed drinks,  We were hungry so food at fridays I eat some of the bread on my burger, no side Sunday Friend is still here and I don't cook I had macaroni and cheese Monday  Friend still here I have 2 quesedilla a...

What we're not gonna do

I think I just posted yesterday, but it's been an interesting 24 hours. Pre current weightloss journey I would come home tired, chores and other things waited until I the weekend.  I would rest (procrastinate saturday) and then sunday try and get some stuff done and really not much would happen and that would be it. Last night I ran errands, did laundry.  The night before I moved the refrigerator because something had spilled and attacked gnats.  A couple of months ago...none of that would have happened.  I'm gonna claim that as a NSV Today was my first doctor's visit in maybe 2 years.  I was always putting it off thinking I know the Dr is going to tell me to lose weight, so I'll just wait and lose weight first.  Just so we're clear that's not how that works.  GO TO THE DOCTOR.  My big questions are do I have high blood pressure and am I diabetic. My blood pressure is 140/82.  For me that's high, but there might be another r...

Sometimes its the little things

So this week while getting dressed for work I noticed my bra fit better.  I mean I didn't suddenly have perky boobs.  In fact I've never had perky boobs, not even at the point where I was young and perky boobs were supposed to be a thing.  I digress.   Anyway, there was a little less boobs and I didn't get the extra baby boob poke up.  If you have big boobs you know what I mean.  I could wear my pants over both of my belly rolls.  Usually I have to  put it between them because otherwise I can't bend over or sit comfortably.  I have been cleaning my house at night.  Nothing major, but instead of collapsing and feeling tired I actually have some energy when I get home.  Last night it was moving my refrigerator to clean up a spill that was attracting gnats.  I think I'm sleeping better.  I feel more rested.   Working out is becoming less of a chore and more of a habit that I just have to do it. ...

That's a no for me Dawg - Sports Bras for Big Chests

Whenever I watch any kind of workout video it usually a thing woman with a  exercise bra thing.  I don't normally care because I'm too busy drowning in my own sweat and cursing her parents and anyone else responsible for her existence....Ok that was a lil harsh..just her parents.  Anyway.  I recorded one of my workouts and I felt like my form for my squats was off because I don't usually wear a bra when I work out and it changed my center of gravity.  One was a "traditional" workout bra and another was a weird space age looking thing that I got from lane bryant during their semi annual sale. Lane Bryant sports Bra When I got it I was kinda like eh  I don't think this is how this works, but once I started to work out.  I didn't notice it.  It actually felt like it helped my form in alot or areas and it was super comfortable. The "traditional bra" had my boobs all over the place and just distracted during the enter work out. My o...

What's different this time?

About 3-4 months ago I was toying with the idea of having weight loss surgery.  No one was recommending it, but I felt like I was having weight creep and maybe I should use a tool to help me.  I spoke to a good friend who pointed out I would still have to modify my eating and exercise.  Why not give it a try without the surgery.  He became my accountability partner.  The thing that different is he doesn't judge. He's thin and fit, but doesn't try and push me, if I slack off there isn't OMG you didn't work out guilt trip, and maybe because of that I'm more focused on making it happen.  I've fallen on the wagon, but I "confess" and move on.  It has helped alot.  I try and send him my planned workout and try and complete it during the week.  It's been something I needed.  I've tried other things. Having a one on one person who might not be in my shoes, but is there with a shoulder if needed has been a bit of a game changer. Finding ...

Can't stop Won't stop

So I'm about 2 lbs away from my monthly goal.  I haven't worked out in about a week, but I have been on plan for 3 days after the visit to my parents. I've realized the most important part of losing weight is staying focused.  If you fall off the wagon get up. If you are tilted to the side, get straight, but keep going.  The worse thing you can do is stop trying.  Over all I only lost 2 lbs, but I recovered from the bad weekend and my period came so all the days I stayed on plan meant I didn't have this huge gain. Stupidly proud of myself. Something else weird happened this week. I usually drink ice coffee, but its pricey, so I bought starbucks pre-made ice coffee.  I ended up having this weird sugar headache.  I ate food, thinking I wasn't eating enough.  After 2 hours I had a pack of oreos and it went away after about 40 min. The next day I had no coffee and no issues.  It makes me think there is something with the starbucks coffee...

Stay the Course

It's been a bumpy few days Monday I was up to 361.8 Tuesday I was up to 363.0 Wednesday - 360.8 I ate on plan both days and Monday I worked out.  I was discouraged to say the least, but I just stuck to my eating plan. My knee is still a little wonky so I haven't do much, tonight I'll do some strength. I got up this morning I was 360.8.  I was stunned to say the least. What have we learned boys and girls?  It takes 2-4 days for my body to deal with whatever crab I through at it.  Saturday was the rice dish my mother made and Sunday was a hamburger from burger king (and chicken fries and a hershey pie).  Funny how you don't remember all the bad when you're trying to understand why the scale went up.  Day 3 and I'm back on track.  Normally this would be a semi cheat day (orange juice, a bagel), but I reallllllllly want to be in the 350s and life isn't that horrible. With all of this I realized if I was doing dietbet I would be stressing righ...

You win some you lose some

So the visit with my parents.  I always gain when I go there. My mother decided the healthiest thing to make was a Chinese stir fry...with brown rice.  She decided that rice was healthy and there was no issue with me eating it.   She's my mother...sigh. and of course I ate two servings...sigh. I did manage not to eat the cupcakes, cake, soda, and other little treats she had in the house, so while I gained, I only gained 1.6 lbs.  I don't really have any plans this week so once again hoping I can get out of the 360s.  The other side, and completely my fault, is I had a hamburger. I was tired from driving, didn't really have anythig in the house and knew once I got it, I would just crash. There is the theory the hamburger did it all, but meh..I think it was a combination. My knee is better.  My co-workers suggested I wear a brace. I have a soft sock like one and its helped alot.  I worked out with modifications and feel ok. Once again happ...

Doing Too Much

So sometimes last week I hurt my knee.  It wasn't horrible but I had a slight limp and some pain.  I could still workout and walking wasn't too bad.  I was walking to my bus yesterday and feeling very energetic and I tried to go to fast walking up the escalator and I felt something bad happen. After that even putting weight on it hurt. I put some icey hot on it and that helped alot. I can kind of hobble along, but too much walking and the knee starts to hurt.  It only seems to be a problem if I'm on it too much. With all of that I want to work out and this is why I love Fitnessglo. I logged in.  I didn't feel comfortable doing my usual level  2 workout, so I filtered by getting started and level 1 (and yes they are really different) I previewed workouts that were low impact and/or had a chair to help with balance.  I picked out a cardio and a strength training workout. I scheduled them for tomorrow morning. I'm going to do them tomorrow....

NSV: Not eating out of emotion/I need a snack/

Down 2.5 lbs. I didn't do anything more than I have been, but it's less stressful and maybe I'm less prone to feel like I want a cheat meal or I want something off my plan. No workout today. I ended up baking some chicken  before it went bad.  I think I'll freeze it for next week. So I had a bit of a falling out with the guy I'm half in love with.  We're not a couple and never will be, but we are something...blah.  Anyway, I was all emotional since I thought he wasn't speaking to me and I started thinking about going out to eat and having my version of comfort food (sushi).  I didn't mostly because work was hectic and by the time I got out I just wanted to go home.  I will say there was a relazation that I'm only wanting to go out to eat to comfort myself with food. I watched a season of the biggest loser while I was doing dietbet and one of the things they focus on was, how did you get this big?  What habits do you have that stop you fr...

Sustainability

So I binged over the weekend.  I started out as ok I get to have some of the stuff I missed while doing diet bet, but eh it was really a binge 3 donuts 3 sushi rolls 1 pint of ice cream (actually wasn't that bad but couldn't resist) potatoes while I was out and an onion bloom By sunday it wasn't so much a binge as just eating crap.  I gave myself a day before I got on the scale and I'm up 5 lbs. I also ate an entire thing of smoked salmon because I was hungry and didn't have anything prepped for dinner.  That was monday. So yeah no smoked salmon in the house...blah. Its low carb, but too much salt. I did food prep for the week, and no lingering need to eat crap.  Anyway, I also don't think I'll be doing dietbet.  14 lbs in a month while doable, isn't sustainable for me.  I pretty much was doing anything to make goal and then kind of burnt out at the end.  It was a good jump start and I might do it again, but right now my goal is 8 lbs for ...

Scale Cannot come into the Out Now

One of my favorite movies, no idea why. I'm a grown woman and I love it.  I'm afraid I'll lose motivation and fall off the wagon and be back where I was, so Im considering another dietbet.  The other side is if I lost it might cause me to fall off. Blah...not sure what to do On the other side of life I had a Scale and non scale victory. I had oreos (6) yesterday and my ankles seemed like they were swollen which usually means a gain, but I didn't my usual after friday cheat and I did a fitness glo strength workout.  I didn't finish it, I wasn't in the mood for the floor work. Anyway, I assumed I had gained..nope down to 360.6. I think I'll wait till after this week to see how I feel about dietbet. I think I'm hanging out 3 days in a row.  Keeping my fingers crossed I had a realization about fitness glow.  I tried to do a level 3 workout and it wasn't horrible, but I felt like I had to modify too much.  I realized they don't have ...

Ding Dong Dietbet is Dead

Thoughts on Dietbet Ok it isn't dead, but my bet is over. I made my goal and I can finally relax and stop weighing myself like a heroin addict looking for my next hit...Blah. I was 361.8 this morning.  with clothes it was 362.6, .1 over my goal weight.  BOOOO clothes, then I realized you don't have to weigh in with clothes, just take the picture so you're not flashing people. Off went everything and I was back to 361.86.  It was verified in 10 min and I didn't have to workout or kill myself to try and lose a half a pound or whatever. I'm down 15.8 lbs since Dec 30 and my habits are way better than a month ago.  I don't think I would have been as focused without dietbet. Towards the end, once I hit my goal.  I hated the obsession with getting on the scale.  Even if I ate well I wanted to make sure I was under goal and didn't have any issues. So for right now. I'm going to just go it alone and if I fall off the wagon I'll do another dietbet...

I can see the finish line

Diet bet is over tomorrow.  As of this morning I was 361.8, I needed to be at 362.5 to win.  Nervous, but happy I finally got to win one.  With that being said, I won't be doing a dietbet next month. I feel like I have an unhealthy obsession with the scale and I was starting to try and starve myself to my goal weight (359). I was talking with a co-worker who said he didn't get on the scale just stayed focused for a month.  I was jealous.  I get up every morning and weigh myself 2-3 times to see how low I can get. I think dietbet was great at jump starting my journey again and keeping me focused, but I need to just leave it alone for a bit. For February my goal is 8 lbs, if did dietbet it would be 14, which would be awesome, but not sure how doable it is, or how scale obsessed I would become. The other issue is, I might be in a plateau from losing so quickly.  16-17 lbs in a month is a lot, even at my size. I've been sitting around 361 for a f...

Balance between Pushing yourself and wasting your time.

So I have a little over two days until I weigh in for dietnet.  I've bobbing around 361 which is under my goal weight.  I'm still paranoid so still eating on plan and working out. In order to keep going I am working on my next round.  I joined pilates anytime and daily burn and then promptly cancelled both yesterday. I like pilates, but I don't need 300+ videos especially when I'm a beginner and have limited ability.  Also I felt like there was just too much talking in the beginner videos.  I'll revisit it when I get better. Daily Burn...sigh. I remember why I quit twice before.  I'm not a beginner but I still need to modify certain things (planks, push-up) other things squat with over head press I actually have moved from 5lb to 8lb weights.  This means I'm in a weird place.  I joined daily burn again really for the bob harper (black fire) work out.  I think I must have hit my head or something. I some how thought in all the vi...

NSV: I can zip up my boots

I can zip up my boots It may not seem like a big deal, but this time last year I couldn't wear these because my feet, ankles and lower leg were so swollen the zipper wouldn't go up.  I grabbed them not really realizing until I did the first ziper with no issues.
